The San Benito County Coroner’s office expects to conduct an autopsy Wednesday to determine a cause of death of a decomposed body found in Aromas Monday afternoon.

The resident who reported the body told deputies he was walking on Cannon Road collecting wood for a home project when he discovered the body off the side of the street, near Chateau Drive. The resident showed investigators the location of the body. It was within 30 feet of the road, said sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Tony Lamonica.

Investigators went to the scene for follow-up examination, collection of evidence and removal of the body.

An autopsy scheduled for Wednesday will confirm the sex of the body and possible cause of death, according to the sheriff’s office. It is unclear how long the person had been there.

“I don’t have any information on the guy at all,” Lamonica said.

That area of Aromas is heavily wooded and about a half-mile north of U.S. 101.

Anyone with information may call the sheriff’s office at (831) 636-4080.
