Santa Clara County District Attorney George Kennedy has announced he will not be supporting either candidate running to succeed him.

During the primary elections in June Kennedy had endorsed Karyn Sinunu, 58, his chief assistant. Running against Sinunu is former Judge Dolores Carr, 52, who has many law enforcement agencies endorsing her, including the Morgan Hill Police Department and Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith. Marc Buller, a deputy district attorney, who was running for the seat in June, has also recently announced his support for Carr.

During the primary election Carr received the most support at the polls, getting 42 percent of the votes, compared to Sinunu who earned 34 percent. Whoever wins will become the first female district attorney in the county. The two candidates are headed for the November runoff as neither one received a majority of the votes cast.
