Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Silicon Valley will be having its 10th annual Gregory Austin Macres Memorial golf tournament Sept. 28 at the Cinnabar Hills Golf Club in San Jose.
This year’s tournament, dubbed “Flip Your Lid for a Good Cause,” will benefit the Children’s Gaucher Research Fund, a nonprofit organization that raises money for research and supports families with children who battle Gaucher disease.Â
The tournament was founded in 1997 in the memory of Gregory Austin Macres, the son of Greg Macres, a senior vice president at NRT Inc. (Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s parent company), who succumbed to the disease in 1997. Shortly after Gregory lost his battle with the disease, Greg and his wife, Deborah, established the Children’s Gaucher Research Fund to help other families and children affected by the disease. One hundred percent of the funds raised through the nonprofit organization aid research in finding a cure for the disease.Â
Gaucher disease is a genetic disorder of the metabolism, which results in the deficiency in an enzyme, causing old cells to be stored in areas such as the liver, spleen, lungs, lymph system and bones instead of being expelled from the body. In more severe cases, which affect young children, they also accumulate in the central nervous system. There is currently no cure for the disease.  Â
The tournament is open to all area residents. For more information call (925) 358-3148.
