Charter School of Morgan Hill

Charter School of Morgan Hill will have a special visit Wednesday from Dr. Lee Hoffmann, the founder of Hoffmann Learning Research Institute.

For an hour starting at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s multi-purpose room, the neuroscience educator will talk about the program that the second through fifth graders have been participating in since October.

The scientific-based measures the discrepancy of how children learn through different modalities: namely visual, auditory and motor skills, said Barbara Smith of the HLRI.

“These variations are often misunderstood and often disregarded in teaching the students to incorporate all skills,” said Smith. She said the study looks to re-establish neurological patterns in the brain to teach children to use all three skills at once.

Each session is held for nine weeks, with Charter School of Morgan Hill is currently in its second session. The selected students in the study participate every morning for five days a week. There is also a control group so that the data can be compared to see if students’ skills are improving, said Smith.

The presentation Wednesday will give parents whose students are in the study an opportunity to learn more about the process of the study and is free and open to the public. Hoffmann will be visiting from Chico.
