Leadership class to unveil creek path rest stop
The public is invited to the Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2012’s unveiling of a new rest stop on the city’s Llagas Creek bike and walking path Thursday, Aug. 30.
The Leadership class designed and built the rest stop, which includes newly planted trees and a bench, as its community service project, according to Leadership Morgan Hill class member Brenda Glimpse.
The rest stop is located just east of the Centennial Recreation Center at 171 West Edmundson Ave. The unveiling will take place at 6:30 p.m.
The Leadership class of 2012 will be joined by local business leaders in a ribbon cutting ceremony, and “share our vision of providing a peaceful rest stop for the community,” Glimpse said.
“The Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2012 believes that we all need moments in our life to simply rest and reflect,” Glimpse said.
Classmates raised money for the project through their own individual contributions and some fundraising efforts, according to classmate and City Council member Marilyn Librers.
The class members did all the work on the project themselves.
Leadership Morgan Hill is a nonprofit organization that trains and educates prospective community leaders for the future benefit of Morgan Hill.
“From our class already, two members have been appointed to city commissions,” Librers said. “We definitely encourage leadership to continue on into the community.”

Faith groups to feed the hungry Sunday
Members of the local Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities will gather at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Sunday to feed hungry residents and share common understanding of each other’s faiths and cultures, according to Hamdy Abbass of the South Valley Islamic Community.
Starting at 3 p.m. at the church at 11 First Street in Gilroy, participants will gather at the church for a discussion about religion and “life in general,” Abbass said.
The participants, who are brought together through the Abrahamic Alliance and have conducted a similar event the last 10 years, will then prepare dinner for needy residents, in coordination with St. Joseph’s Family Center.
Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
