Live Oak sophomore Afari La-Anyane was the only local to advance Saturday in the Central Coast Section Semifinals at Garcia-Elder Sports Complex in Gilroy.
As she planted her feet in the starting blocks only a few lanes away from Piedmont Hills standouts Bianca and Ellisa Bryant, the fastest girl in the state from 400 meters, Sobrato sophomore Jessica Reid glanced over at one of her admirers in the crowd, smiled and gave two thumbs up.
The Sobrato Bulldogs produced only two individual titles at the Santa Teresa Division Boys Track and Field Finals, but their third-place finish, coupled with the points they received for their 7-0 record in dual meets, cemented them as outright league champions for the first time in program history.
