After winning its first Central Coast Section playoff game and finishing in second place in the Blossom Valley’s Mount Hamilton Division, the Sobrato football team was rewarded with 11 all-league selections this week.

It was a series of bad special teams play - three failed extra point attempts and a missed field goal - that caused Sobrato High School to come up three points short in a 28-25 loss to the Leland Chargers in a Mount Hamilton Division matchup Friday night in San Jose.

A year sure does make all the difference.

After last week’s 38-19 thrashing of the defending Monterey Bay League champions Christopher High, the Sobrato Bulldogs are quietly trying to quell any expectations entering the second game of the 2012 season against Gilroy High. 

Expectations have never been higher for the Sobrato High School football team. One year removed from their first league championship and receiving an invitation to the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Mount Hamilton Division, the Bulldogs are set to prove that last season’s success wasn’t a fluke.

A week into fall practice, the Sobrato Bulldogs are already counting down the days until they open the season on Aug. 31 against Christopher High School. 

When spring training began Monday, Sobrato football coach Nick Borello made a deal with his players: If they put in five solid practices this week, they could have Memorial Day off.

Quarterback Michael Bocksnick, who last season led San Benito High School to its first Tri-County Athletic League championship in six years, is moving to Morgan Hill and will transfer to Live Oak or Sobrato for his final year of high school, according to his father, Herb, a former SBHS freshman football coach.
