For a city that prides itself on transparency, last week’s decision to appoint members of the public to the Morgan Hill Downtown Economic Development Corporation without an application process, sends the wrong message.

Don Gage, Santa Clara Valley Water District Director and former Gilroy mayor, confirmed Thursday that he is again running for mayor, adding another player to an already complicated race for the seat.

Two Garlic Capital natives who previously gave the public a solid “no” when asked if they would run for mayor in 2012 have re-opened the door of possibility, meaning Gilroy’s mayoral candidates could potentially double.

Cheers to police for finding creative ways to combat crime. Installing security cameras at various locations throughout the city will help deter crime, provide evidence when a crime occurs and improve the overall safety for shoppers and residents. The cameras are located at Monterey Road and Third Street, Cosmo and Del Monte avenues (near the site of the Nov. 4, 2011 murder of Tara Romero),  on Wright Avenue near Christian Crossroads Church and on Crest Avenue near Galvan Park where Juan Arellano was shot to death outside the apartment complex in October 2009 (the latter one not yet installed).

When it comes to responsible money management, caring for the city's utilities is a lot like running a household. Many families might identify three main aspects to their household budgets. Primary are the daily costs like groceries, household supplies and gas for the car.

"Red Phone, with the New Year (upon us) is it illegal to smoke within 20 feet of a door such as at the M&H Tavern, as more smoke comes in than stays out. Who is responsible to post signs?"
