It has been nearly two years since the Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance began operating the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Center. What a difference the two years have made!
“Red Phone, I was deeply disturbed (this week) as I was planning my calendar for the spring. While working on June, I wanted to find out when the Britton Middle School graduation was to be held. Having not found the date on the school or district website, I called The Britton office and was told that there would be no ceremony due to budget cuts. Really? How much could it possibly cost to put up a microphone and a few chairs out in the field? I called the Superintendent’s office to find out. I was told by a secretary that she thought that the Superintendent may have written a document addressing that, but she wasn’t sure and if she found it, she would email it to me. My personal opinion is that this is really about a bunch of adults acting like 2-year-olds, crossing their arms, holding their breath and stomping their feet against state budget cuts. I wonder if each member of the school board remembers his/her eighth grade graduation ceremony? I bet they do as this is almost a right-of-passage into high school. I am hoping that some community light can be shed on this matter.”
“Dear Red Phone, When I pick up my eighth grader from Britton Middle School, I am always concerned about the students crossing Main Avenue at Del Monte Avenue. Shouldn’t a busy intersection so close to a school have a four-way stop? Or a crossing guard? Nearby P.A. Walsh Elementary School gets out just a short time before Britton as well, so those students would benefit from some additional safety precautions as well.”
There were no typical science fair vinegar and baking soda volcanoes at last Thursday's Science Fair held at Britton Middle School. The second annual Pauchon Research Foundation's science fair brought out the best student scientists in the area.
