City, district set to require water use cuts

The local water district and cities in Santa Clara County are preparing to implement mandatory conservation measures in the face of an ongoing drought...

City searches for more money for street maintenance

Many of Morgan Hill’s streets are in such bad shape that the City needs about $2.4 million more per year just to return the roadways and associated infrastructure to a “safe and sustainable” state, according to a report presented to the City Council Wednesday.

City can’t keep up with street costs

With the city running short on funds for street and infrastructure repairs and traditional sources of funding disappearing, staff has commissioned a thorough study on the “sidewalk-to-sidewalk” needs for future repairs and maintenance of all the city’s streets, and some council members recently suggested they might one day have to go to the voters for more revenue.

Red Phone: Can someone water the lawn?

“Dear Red Phone, What’s up with the lawn between the library and City Hall? It's dying. Didn't they put any sprinklers in after the expense of putting new sod in? Thanks.”

Empty canisters are dangerous, dispose properly

“Dear Red Phone, I while back you ran an item about where to dispose of unwanted empty propane canisters, but I can’t seem to find it on your website. Can you help?”

‘No Parking’ signs at CRC will be removed

"Red Phone, in the evenings I drive down Del Monte Avenue through the Community Park to the Centennial Recreation Center. Coming and going past the baseball fields there are always cars, SUVS and large vans parked in front of the ‘No Parking Anytime' signs along the road. Several calls to the police department to complain about the difficulty of blocked two way traffic seem to be ignored. The parents and adult players just seem to be the special people allowed to not use the street or the large parking lot for parking."

Eco-activities for the wet winter months

I just had the pleasure of hearing lots of raindrops falling on our roof. Whew - I thought it might never rain again. Driving out of the house to see the wet streets and plants perking up with the moisture was a welcome sight indeed. I may be imagining it, but I'd swear that my lawn was already greening up. We love a good soaking that provides enough water to green things up without causing major flooding.
