Do you believe the health care reform bill signed Tuesday will
be deficit neutral?
THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:

“Do you believe the health care reform bill signed Tuesday will be deficit neutral?” Yes: 2 No: 9

? Karen Anderson: “Not a chance. You cannot insure that many new people on savings from abuse.”

? Dave Appling: “No. Major program changes are never revenue-neutral; the forecasts are always made with rose-colored glasses. But I support the law; it’s certainly not perfect, but it’s far better than the status quo.”

? Bert Berson: “No. The Democrats are too optimistic and the Republicans too pessimistic.”

? Chris Bryant: “No, I expect that costs of administering these changes will be much higher than expected and any savings will be eaten up by increased expenditures.”

? Dennis Kennedy: “Actually, over the long haul, I believe it will reduce the deficit, by improving preventative medical care, and reducing some Medicare costs.”

? Linda McNulty: “No, How could it really be deficit neutral?”

? Henry Miller: “No. I believe that, in the long run, medical costs will be better controlled resulting in a deficit reduction. Hope springs eternal.”

? Lisa Pampuch: “Yes. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says the health-care reform bill will be even better than neutral, it will reduce the deficit by $130 billion in the first decade, and more than $1 trillion in the second decade.”

? Emily Shem-Tov: “Not unless a lot of other steps and brave political decisions are taken in the coming years to get the numbers to actually come out that way.”

? Jeff Smith: “Never in a million years. Whoever believes this also believes in fantasy, fiction, and fairy tales.”

? Steve Staloch: “No. The layers of bureaucracy this program creates is unprecedented and fiscally unmanageable. Regardless of where one comes down on the health reform issue, the claim that it will not add to the deficit will be proven nothing more than disingenuous spin.”
