SAN JOSE — The Sobrato boy’s basketball team is now tied with Andrew Hill for third place in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The visiting Bulldogs beat Del Mar 57-51 Tuesday on the same night Andrew Hill lost 66-59 to first-place Willow Glen.

Knotted at 6-3 in league play, Sobrato and Andrew Hill trail Independence by a game with five division contests remaining. Independence also had a scare Tuesday, nipping lowly Evergreen Valley 54-52.

An Andrew Hill victory would have helped the Bulldogs more, but Sobrato controls its destiny for second place and is one victory from gaining postseason eligibility. The Bulldogs can split the Santa Teresa championship if Willow Glen (8-1 BVAL) loses again — possibly at Independence next week. Sobrato visits Mount Pleasant at 7:30 p.m. Friday before hosting Evergreen Valley next Tuesday.
