Hundreds of seniors graduated from Morgan Hill Unified School District’s three high schools last week, eager to begin their next steps toward adulthood and independence.
Central High School’s commencement ceremony took place June 8 at the Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center amphitheater. Forty-five students graduated from Central, the district’s continuation school. The student speaker was Class of 2023 graduate Destiny Mauricio.
Ann Sobrato and Live Oak high schools held their Class of 2023 graduation ceremonies on June 9 at each campus’s respective athletic field. Sobrato’s class totaled 373 graduates, while 245 graduated from Live Oak.
The Sobrato class’s valedictorian is Aaron Tran, and the salutatorian is Nathan Tran. Live Oak’s valedictorian and salutatorian are, respectively, Gianna Vallez and Isabella Fredericks.
MHUSD Board of Education President Dr. Ivan Rosales Montes, just prior to the commencement ceremonies, wrote in the district’s School News Roll Call that the Class of 2023’s achievements are “a testament to the collective and exceptional support they have received from our entire community.”
Montes added his and the board’s thanks to the teachers, staff and administrators at Ann Sobrato, Live Oak and Central high schools. He also called out the high school seniors’ parents for their “ongoing support” contributing to the teens’ milestone.
“Graduates, as the school year draws to a close, we reflect on the remarkable journey we have embarked upon together,” Montes continued in the newsletter. “You are the embodiment of hope and promise for the future. As you step into the next chapter of your lives, remember the foundation of knowledge, values and friendships that you have cultivated during your time with MHUSD. We believe in your potential to achieve greatness, and we are confident that you will make a positive difference in the world. We are immensely proud of each and every one of you.”
