Local student graduating from Utah State University
Brennen Piper of Morgan Hill is set to graduate from Utah State University.
Piper is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Technology Systems.
Utah State University will recognize 6,588 candidates for graduation during its Spring 2022 Commencement celebration.
Gavilan College Theater presents ‘The Imaginary Invalid’
The Gavilan College Theater Program presents its spring production and original adaptation of “The Imaginary Invalid” on May 13, 14, 20 and 21 at 8pm and 2pm on May 21.
This play highlights the comedic work of playwright Molière, juxtaposing period costumes and settings with modern situational dialogue and 1980s music.
“Molière was adept at creating relatable characters and situations in which we can see ourselves and laugh at their antics onstage,” Gavilan College Theater Director John Lawton Haehl said. “Our protagonist Argon learns an important lesson—that laughter, and the love of your family and friends, is the best medicine of all.”
The play will be performed at the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy. Masks are required indoors.

Compost giveaway
Recology South Valley will host a compost giveaway 9am-1pm May 14 at the Morgan Hill Corporation Yard, 100 Edes Court. Free compost is limited to one 32-gallon can per Morgan Hill resident. No commercial customers allowed. Supplies are limited, and available on a first come, first serve basis. Bring your own shovel and container.

Creek cleanup
Saturday, May 21 is National River Cleanup Day, which brings an opportunity for individuals, families and groups to enhance the health of West Little Llagas Creek and its wildlife. Organizers and volunteers will focus on picking up litter. Gloves, bags and litter grabbers will be provided. Bring your own water bottle.
Meet at the city’s Corporation Yard, 100 Edes Court, at 9am May 21. Participants younger than 18 will need to bring a volunteer waiver signed by their parents the morning of the event. Call 408.310.4169 for more information or to get a volunteer waiver.
CERT training
Basic training for the Morgan Hill Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is scheduled for May 17-June 11. The CERT training is a 20-hour, all hazard training program offered by Morgan Hill’s Office of Emergency Services. Classes are a combination of online training and a one-day, hands-on skills training session.
Registration is required by the first class session and participants will receive an email confirmation to attend. This class is open to anyone over the age of 18. Community service hours are available to students who attend with a parent/guardian.

Blood drive
The City of Morgan Hill will host a community blood drive with Stanford Blood Center on Friday, May 20 from 10am. to 2pm at 17000 Monterey Street.
Walk-in availability may be limited, so donors are encouraged to make an appointment by visiting stanford.io/3KBHQiy or calling 888.723.7831. Donors will be required to wear a mask.
“Blood donors are essential to the health and safety of our community. You never know when you or someone you know could need blood,“ said Phillip Martin, Stanford Blood Center Account Manager. “In critical situations, it’s the blood that has already been donated that saves lives at a moment’s notice. That’s why we are asking our community members to step up to come out to the City of Morgan Hill blood drive. In just one hour, you could donate enough blood to help multiple patients at a time they need it most.”
Stanford Blood Center reassures the public that donors’ safety is a top priority and measures are in place to ensure blood donation continues to be a safe process for everyone onsite. Blood donation remains an essential activity.
In preparation for their donation, donors are advised to eat well, stay hydrated and arrive with their donor ID. First time donors or returning donors without a donor ID card should bring a valid state-issued photo identification. Donors with all blood types are always welcomed and appreciated, but there’s always a special need for type O blood. O negative donors are universal donors, (meaning anyone can receive O- blood no matter their type,) and O- is often used for trauma and pediatric patients.
As a special thanks for keeping patients a priority, anyone who donates at this drive will receive 1,000 bonus points to spend in the Donor Loyalty Store on a $10 gift card from Peet’s Coffee, Lowe’s Jamba Juice or Chipotle.
