Editorial board members reflect on the passing of colleague John
Quick, an admired member of the community
“John Quick was my friend. He was also my colleague in community action and most importantly, the vet for my dogs. We became acquainted through my pets when my wife and I moved to Morgan Hill 10 years ago. In addition to serving with him on the editorial board of the Morgan Hill Times, we worked closely through the Community Law Enforcement Foundation. His efforts and his connections to others helped bring the Morgan Hill Police Department’s K9 unit back to life. Without him, our work on the Law Enforcement Foundation would have taken much, much longer.” – David Cohen

“I am shocked and saddened by the news of John’s passing. John was a devoted member of our editorial board who always demonstrated – quite animatedly at times – his passion for the Morgan Hill community. He was well versed on local issues and always stood up for what he believed in with articulation and conviction. We will miss his voice and his friendship. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.” – Steve Staloch

“I can’t believe John is gone. He was so alive, active and outspoken! He was always there with a quick and thoughtful response to whatever the situation. I knew John very well; He was ‘Man of the Year,’ incredible donor of his time and talent to WERC, the Community Law Enforcement Foundation and many other organizations; fellow member of Rotary and the Times Editorial Review Board and someone I could share personal thoughts and feelings with. We need to do something special to recognize and memorialize John for what he has given to our community.” – Dennis Kennedy

“I first got to know John when he joined the newspaper’s editorial board a few years ago. It won’t surprise anyone who read his letters to the editor and guest columns to hear that he was as passionate and eloquent a defender of his positions in person as he was on the printed page. But I also learned that he was exceedingly well read and well informed on a wide variety of topics. My Tuesday mornings won’t be the same without an hour of bantering with John as part of the agenda. The editorial board, the newspaper’s opinion page, and our community are all poorer for his loss.” – Lisa Pampuch

“I am shocked, stunned and saddened. John enriched my life. His passing is a big loss for all of us.” – Julian Mancias

“I was shocked upon learning of John’s death. When I first started here in November 2008, I met John during my first editorial board meeting and was immediately impressed with his passion. But, what I came to learn as I got to know him, was the depth of his knowledge on a wide variety of topics. And while we didn’t always agree on the issues, we always respected each other’s opinions and left as friends. I will miss John’s passion and friendship. Our heartfelt prayers go out to his family.” – Robert Airoldi
