Four Morgan Hill residents and a former School District trustee have app-lied with 11 others for one vacant seat on the Santa Clara County Board of Education.
The four local candidates are Mike Davenport, My-Le Jacqueline Duong, Ian Jacobsen and John H. Reese.
Also applying is Russ Danielson, who was appointed in October 2001 to a vacancy on the Morgan Hill School District board but was defeated in November 2002 in a bid for a full term. A San Jose resident, he serves on the Coyote Valley Task Force, a group overseeing the area’s development.
Danielson co-owns Jody’s Junction, a stationery and office supply store, in downtown Morgan Hill.
Interviews are scheduled April 6 for the Area 7 seat that Morgan Hill resident Don Kruse currently holds. The Area 7 seat, includes the Morgan Hill and Gilroy among its districts.
Kruse will leave the county school board April 6 because of health issues. The remaining board members will hear candidates speak for three minutes about their past experiences and goals.
Davenport lives in Morgan Hill and ran unsuccessfully for the MHSD board in November 2004. He is a corporate compliance manager with Cisco.
Jacobsen is a Morgan Hill-based certified management consultant offering help in dealing with change and strengthening leadership skills. Information about Duong and Reese was unavailable from the county agency.
Others applying include former Gilroy School Board members Bob Kraemer and Jane Howard and former Eastside Union High School Trustee Easu Ruiz Herrera, a San Jose resident.
Applicants will be interviewed after 6pm Wednesday, April 6, at the county Office of Education building, 1290 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose. The Santa Clara County Board of Education has seven elected members who serve four-year terms. Trustees set policy for the agency, appoint the superintendent and review and approve the operating budget.
