EDITOR: As I watched the city planning meeting on the television
I was very disappointed in what the members of the commission had
to say. The Planning Commission was not too interested in what the
residence had to say or our e-mails we have been sending. It seems
they are very interested in bringing (
“money – tax revenues”) to the City of Morgan Hill. This will be
at our expense.

As I watched the city planning meeting on the television I was very disappointed in what the members of the commission had to say. The Planning Commission was not too interested in what the residence had to say or our e-mails we have been sending. It seems they are very interested in bringing (“money – tax revenues”) to the City of Morgan Hill. This will be at our expense.
The interest in the local residents, i.e. those of us who are just off Murphy, it seems they blew off. I have watched big rigs also at the corners of Condit and Dunne making turns, the turns are wide and dangerous.
When we lived in San Jose, we lived around the corner from a car dealership, and guess where they test drove the cars? Not on the nearby freeway, no. Right down our residential neighborhood streets speeding braking etc.. So for the member on the board that made that statement that they would be test driving cars on and off the freeway, you are wrong this will happen, and there will be problems.
I was passed by a car wanting to speed past me down Murphy this morning because I was doing the posted speed limit of 30 mph. They were trying to get past the traffic on Condit so they were in a great hurry to get past me and to the corner of Murphy and Diana to get back to Condit to get in front of traffic coming from the light.
Murphy has been used as a speedway for quite some time. The first year we lived here a young man was speeding on his motorcycle and was killed by a school bus backing out of Kelly Park. What will it take for you to see the dangers, another tragedy of a child or pedestrian being hit and killed or injured for life? It will be to late if you don’t take your time on what you are proposing. These types of tragedies will happen again, guaranteed if you allow this type of business to go in.
There is a school nearby, a park nearby, many children in the area, as well as walkers, biking, joggers, etc. Our quiet neighborhood is already being littered from the fast food outlets. Also, there has not been an environmental impact report completed, which should be done, which was mentioned at the meeting, but not seeming to be considered.
This car dealership is being pushed way too fast, even if the Planning Commission may not think so. Also, this will have an impact on the value of our million dollar plus homes. How would you feel if you have put money and time invested into your home and this was going to impact the value of your home?
Also, most have moved from the San Jose area to Morgan Hill because of the tranquility Morgan Hill has to offer. You are clearly taking that away. A car dealership is not needed in this area (there is already only a few miles away “Gilroy auto row” why do we have to have more dealerships in this small town, we are not San Jose.
The area on Condit was zoned for purposes other than a new car dealership. The city should keep to the original plans, a workout place, indoor recreation facilities etc. These types of businesses are good for the kids and great for neighborhoods and help build a good community. The businesses proposed in the original plans make much more sense for the area of residential neighborhoods.
