I am a new member of our community, however I am not new to zoning or business development. I spent 12 years as a Democratic county commissioner in a conservative state and understand how the process works.

I took the opportunity April 23 to watch our city government in action. The discussion that interested me was In-N-Out’s proposal to create an outlet for their business on Cochrane Road. My observations shocked and saddened me. After addressing the council’s legitimate concerns in a positive manner In-N-Out was left hanging for one more week after a 3-2 negative vote.

Hedy Change seemed unable to follow the debate and depended on a city staff member to make her decision. Steve Tate seemed only interested in creating obstacles to the proposal. Larry Carr had his concerns addressed in a positive manner and still voted no.

The only positive sign came from Mayor Dennis Kennedy and Greg Sellers. While not rubber stamping In-N-Out’s proposal they worked to find solutions that addressed our communities concerns in a positive manner.

I’m please to see that that after jerking In-N-Out around one more time, the city council voted in a positive manner to allow this asset to our community to proceed.
