I’m not an attorney so I can’t effectively argue the finer points of the law regarding the Lynch lawsuit against the City of Morgan Hill over the planned Ford dealership. But from my humble perspective, Mr. Lynch’s argument should be more with the Ford Motor Co. than a city where many of his customers come from and the city they pay their taxes to.

The key to sustainable success for an auto dealership I’ve been told, is in the service department.

A few years ago, my Ford Expedition stopped running. Being new to the area, I looked in the phone book and found Bob Lynch Ford nearby in Gilroy. AAA towed the SUV to Lynch where the service advisor told me in a less than apologetic tone that they were so backed up, it would be four or five days before they could get to me. The tow truck and I then headed off to San Jose where another dealer took me right away, and had me back on the road 15 minutes later.

I remembered that a few months later when my wife and I went back to that dealer and bought two cars the same day.

Mr. Lynch had a chance at my business and blew it. It’s what competition is all about, And if the planned Ford dealership in Morgan Hill makes his store more attentive to customers, we will all be better off.
