The Acorn Cross Country Team posted another set of impressive times at two meets last week.

With the Crystal Springs Centermeet No. 2 in Belmont on Thursday, the Live Oak runners were ready to roll in a meet that would give them needed experience on a CCS course.

The men’s varsity team placed 10th out of 20 teams, Coach Dean Raymond said.

“We’re now probably a Division II or III team and there were a lot of the Division I teams there,” he said. “The times were what pleasantly shocked me.”

The Ladies Varsity Team placed 7th out of 14 squads.

“They were right in the middle again,” Raymond said.

The most impressive performance came from Acorn leader Cobbie Jones, who placed first in the event.

“The main story is Cobbie,” Raymond said. “She won the whole thing. Lisa Herrara was 10th and Olivia Duran was 15th. Olivia is a freshman and she’s running in 15th place overall.”

Raymond said all of his varsity runners posted personal records in Crystal Springs last week.

“Every varsity runner PR’ed,” he said. “It was amazing”

The team traveled to Rocklin on Saturday for a relay race that allowed runners to focus on speed in the 10k event that was split among five runners per team.

“All the legs are much shorter and the team works together,” Raymond said.

The Men’s Varsity Team finished sixth of 23 teams. With Jones missing the event to discuss her future with UCLA, the ladies couldn’t field a team, but entered the co-ed division. The team of Herrara, Duran, Justin Miyakusu, Nolan Zandi and Jesus Antonocio won the co-ed division.
