Sobrato summer sports camps still accepting signups
Many outstanding coaches from Sobrato High will provide instruction in the necessary fundamentals and skills at the Sobrato High Athletics Camps from July 11 through Aug. 12 this summer. The week-long specialty camps, which will be held at the Sobrato campus with its brand new athletic facilities, will include training in: football, baseball, girl’s basketball, boy’s basketball, field hockey, softball, volleyball, soccer and cheerleading. The Baseball Skills and Pitching Camps will be held in two sessions, Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12 from 9am to noon and 12:30pm-2pm. In addition, the Do It All Camp is a mixture of many sports and activities, while the Got Game Camp is a three-hour, 3-on-3, half-court basketball extravaganza. The camps are designed for kids aged 6-17, and costs range from $75-$140. Signups are being accepted now.

Gavilan baseball camp
Gavilan College will hold the second session of its inaugural co-ed baseball camp in mid-July. The camp, which will be led by Gavilan baseball head coach Neal Andrade, Gavilan assistant coaches and players, is for children ages 7-13 who are interested in learning the basic skills to improve their baseball talent. One five-day session remains, beginning on Monday, July 18 and ending Friday, July 22. Each day, the camp will take place from 9am to noon at the Gavilan College baseball field. The fee for each session is $75. Campers should bring a glove, bat, hat, baseball shoes, sweatshirt and a snack.

MH Fourth of July 5K and Children’s Mile Runs
The Morgan Hill Fourth of July 5K and Children’s Mile Run will be held on Monday, July 4 at 8am at PA Walsh Elementary School, 353 West Main Street. The race will take place just before the official parade of Santa Clara County, and many of the parade spectators will be along the course to cheer on the runners. Registration will be held from 6:15am-7:45am on the day of the race. All children 11 and younger receive a wrist band. IDI golf tourney at Coyote Creek
The 9th annual Independence Day, Inc. Golf Tournament will be held at Coyote Creek Golf Club on Friday as part of Morgan Hill’s Fourth of July celebration.
Registration is at noon with a modified shotgun start at 1pm on the Valley Course. The $140 per golfer entry fee includes a box lunch, 18 holes of play on the Valley Course, golf cart, range balls, hosted hors d’ oeuvres during the tournament awards presentation and raffle.
All proceeds from this event go to support the community’s annual Fourth of July Festivities. Morgan Hill’s Independence Day festivities are organized and run by an all-volunteer committee (Independence Day Inc.) and staffed entirely by community volunteers. IDI is financially supported by business sponsorships, private residents’ contributions, and the City of Morgan Hill.

OVYSL fall soccer accepting signups
Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League is now taking sign-ups for the 2005-06 fall recreational season.
Play begins Sept. 10 and ends Nov. 20. Boys and girls ages 4-16 are eligible (birth dates 8/1/1989 to 7/31/2001). Fees range from $65 for U6, $95 for U8 and $120 for U10-U16.

YMCA Camps signups
Mt. Madonna YMCA in Morgan Hill is now accepting registration for camps which take place at the Morgan Hill YMCA, 17666 Crest Ave.
Half-day sports camps are for 3-5 year olds and take place June 13 through Aug. 19. The cost is $133/week.
Full day sports camps include a soccer camp from July 18-22 and the cost is $223/week; basketball camp from Aug. 1-5 and is $223/week; Y-World of Sports from July 5-8 and from Aug. 15-19 and is $223/week; gymnastics camp from July 11-15 and is $290/week; and golf camp from July 25-29 and Aug. 8-12 and is $350/week.
These camps are only for those entering grades 1-3 or 4-6.
