The phrase “if you can see it, then you can be it” reflects the power of visualization. For those individuals that are not familiar with this concept, it is using your mind to bring your goals into reality.
Seeing your goals coming true in your mind’s eye is an extremely powerful tool in attaining success, and there are several methods of doing this.
One way is known as “end result imagery.” This is being able to see the results before they are there.
For example, if your goal is to lose 10 pounds, when you are using “end result imagery,” you will be able to look in the mirror and see yourself being 10 pounds lighter.
Or, with summer on the way, picture yourself in a bathing suit on the beach.
In this method, the more senses you can use, the more success you will have. Not only will you be able to see yourself as lighter, you will feel lighter. In the beach example, try to see the waves, smell the ocean, and feel the sun on your body.
Write your goals down. If you can see the end result in writing, than it becomes more real.
Describe what you want to do, how you want to get there, and a time frame for when you want to be there.
Using the example we used in “end result imagery,” write down what you want to achieve. If your goal is to lose 10 pounds, write how you will do it. Be as specific as possible. Perhaps you will write that you will do aerobic exercise three times per week, and weight training twice a week. You also write that you will keep a food journal and track everything you are eating.
Finally, with this method, write down a goal date on your calendar or daily planner. Not only will this give you a positive picture in your head, it will keep you more accountable to your goals.
Have an inspiration. How many of us have cut out pictures from a magazine or a book of someone who has the image we desire? Or posted pictures of ourselves when we looked the way we wanted to?
Although many of the pictures we see in magazines (of supermodels, for instance) are unrealistic for many of us, they often provide an image that we can use as motivation.
Again, if you can picture something in your mind’s eye, than you are more likely to be able to bring that picture into reality.
Perhaps you have the desire to run a marathon or do a triathlon or enter a bodybuilding contest. Imagine yourself crossing the finish line or up on stage in a classic pose. By doing this, you can see that the results you are trying to achieve are, in fact, possible.
It’s a fact. The power of visualization in extremely potent. A positive attitude (i.e. “I know I can do this”) can make all the difference in your success.
