May Day Picnic
May day 1906 was a happy day for the pupils of the Burnett School. Bright and early the youngsters assembled at the school, where Mr. Peter Tarp was in waiting with a four horse team and a large comfortable wagon gaily decorated with flowers and bunting.
Soon all were ready and with jolly cheers, shouts and laughter, which were kept up the entire route, the party was off with a gallop to their destination, through Morgan Hill, up the Watsonville road to an ideal spot just across the bridge over the Llagas Creek. There after fun and frolic ruled supreme during the entire day. At lunch time full justice was done to the innumerable good things which mothers had packed up in abundance, knowing full well the capacity of their darling boys and girls.
The teachers, Miss Purcell and Miss Miller joined the children in their games being to it that all had a good time.
A large number of parents and friends joined the crowd in the afternoon, feasting themselves as it were on the happiness of the children.
At sunset all were delivered at home safe and well with the satisfaction of having probably spent one of the happiest days in their life.
Mr. Peter Tarp clerk of the school board is deserving great credit in arranging the outing and transporting the crowd to and from the picnic grounds.
