Division II Live Oak team defeats Division I powerhouses,
Bellarmine and Del Mar
After clenching the championship in Division II, Live Oak wastes no time and already has two victory’s under their belt in the third and final season for the year.Â
There are approximately 35 high-schools playing in the league ranging from Division I to V. Division I hosts the top four teams of the league. With Live Oak’s success in Division II, they are finding themselves in very close proximity to these top teams.Â
In game one, Live Oak defeated Division I Del Mar and on Friday night in game two, Live Oak defeated Bellarmine’s division I team 11-9.Â
It was a tight game with a lot of action. Goalie Ricky Lasher did great in the net with about 70 percent saves in the 1st period and improving to about 90 percent by the third period.Â
Bellarmine had four penalty kill opportunities, but came up short every time against Live Oak’s defense. In the final minutes of the game, with a player in the penalty box, Live Oak was up against a five on three drive from Bellarmine as they pulled their goalie in a final attempt to score, but once again came up short. Â
Junior Brian Costello scored four goals for Live Oak and had two assists. Kyle Dutra scored two goals and had three assists. Senior Chase Norman put two in the net and Alex Prado added one goal and an assist. Junior Conner Williamson and sophomore Michael Widergren each added a goal. Scott Alexander and Calvin Kiss each added an assist.
Tyler Damron along with Brian Morrison both added key plays to the game. New to the Live Oak team for the Spring are seniors Calvin Kiss, Alex Prado, and Brian Morrison. Â
This Friday at 10pm Live Oak will face off against Pioneer at Rollinice in San Jose.
