Dear Editor,
What is wrong with this picture? I find it amazing that the wining and dining has ended without so much of a kiss good night!
The courting process to lure business to downtown ends abruptly once the ink is dry. Prior to opening our small business in downtown Morgan Hill everything was wonderful. Now that the business is open we are told parking is not enforced as promised.
Street closures, no one mentioned any of those, or should I say many of those.
I can’t understand the philosophy of the city fathers and their reasoning for shutting down the streets making it impossible for the small business owners to make the rent.
I am not even talking about the so-called “non profit” events that turn our streets into toilets and garbage waste sites.
I don’t think that I’m unreasonable when I say that I can’t understand why the parking can’t be enforced?
Think of the revenue that can be gained by parking tickets.
I love this town and the many wonderful people who live here.
This community is like what it was in the old days.
Is it unfair of me to ask that the small local business be considered when special events are arranged?
Is the loss of revenue justified for local dignitaries to ride down the streets waiving to the crowds? Look around you small businesses downtown are closing at an alarming rate. I have to ask myself if there is enough support or representation for the little guy?
Soon the large shopping centers will be in and customers will be migrating there where street closures don’t exist.
Do we want downtown to end up unoccupied like other neighboring cities, or do we want business to prosper and grow?
We were denied access to our business recently by the Independence Day, Inc. organizers. Even when we told them we were catering the fireworks people.
Every business owner in the downtown area should have been sent an automatic pass to access their workplace.
The recent Fourth of July celebration showed there continues to be no communication to downtown business owners.
Because the post-parade party was relocated this year downtown instead of being held at Community Park, many business owners closed due to previous experiences.
Unfortunately, no downtown business owner was told they could be open to meet the post-parade crowd.
