Dear Editor,

As chairperson of the 17th annual Patriotic Sing, I would like to invite members of our community, families, and friends to this year’s program at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 3, at the Britton Middle School gymnasium.

The event, which is free to the public, will feature patriotic songs, essay contest awards, and a chance to celebrate the birthday of America through music. We extend a special invitation to those who have served or continue to serve in our armed forces. This year we will also be wishing Morgan Hill a happy 100th birthday! Please join us and rekindle your patriotism!

The Patriotic Sing is the first of several events brought to our community by the volunteers of Independence Day, Inc. Following the Sing on Monday evening, you’re invited to dance in the streets of downtown Morgan Hill to the music of the “Usual Suspects.”

On Tuesday, July 4th, 5K-runners and walkers will begin the Freedom 5K race at 8 a.m. Registration begins at 6:45am, at P.A. Walsh School.

After the runners complete the race, it’s time to watch a pre-parade Classic Car Cruise of the parade route at 9am and then at 10am, plan to enjoy Morgan Hill’s Fourth of July Parade, “Morgan Hill, A Portrait of America.” After the parade, stay downtown and join friends and neighbors at the new post-parade party and car show!

You can step back in time as you watch (or join in) a pie-eating contest or dunk a local celebrity in the dunk tank! There will be food, entertainment and fun for all!

Following the festival, it’s time to go home, grab a blanket, and get ready to watch as fireworks light up the sky over Community Park.

The fireworks festival begins at 6pm with people staking out their viewing areas.

Music will be provided by the classic rock and roll band, the Dadz. After dark, a dramatic fireworks show will conclude the festivities. All in all, some memory-making ways to celebrate a small-town Fourth of July in Morgan Hill.

Check out www.mhidi.com for more details! Thank you IDI, and happy birthday America and Morgan Hill!
