1. Use the squabbling energy for a higher and better purpose

Quit quibbling.
That’s what those bent on distinguishing our city’s beautiful Community Center from downtown need to do. Instead, that energy should be squarely directed toward creating further synergy between the Community Center and downtown.
That should be an easy task.
Holding outdoor community events (as the name so aptly implies) at the community center makes perfect sense for logistical, public safety and practical purposes.
There’s parking, a defined space, a relaxed environment and, unless your definition is skewed to fit an agenda, it’s downtown.

2. Having a beautiful location in a prime space a real blessing

It’s hard to fathom those who wrongly believe that closing down Monterey Street in the middle of downtown is the best solution for merchants.
Give the people something to walk a block for and they’ll do it, of course. And there are plenty of opportunities to get the word out, whether it’s for a nice meal at Ladera Grill, a cheesesteak at A.J.’s or a glass of local wine and a smoke at the Morgan Hill Cigar Company.
To have such a beautiful facility in such a prime location is a wonderful asset to the community. Its use should continue to be maximized and supported by all the organizations that serve residents from the Freedom Fest organizers to the local business organizations.

3. Keeping the ‘boo birds’ at bay with the facts is important

The business groups are, of course, key to fostering the true understanding of common and business sense regarding the community center’s use. Keeping the “boo birds” at bay with facts, promotion and assistance is key to harmony and economic benefit.
The Community Center is here to stay. It’s in a prime location and its use should be recognized and fostered.
