Red Phone

“Red Phone, how about repairing all of the potholes, graffiti and garbage on E. 4th Street where everyone parks and dumps garbage? There are a few homes down that street, and there is always broken glass, garbage and damaged sidewalks. It’s still part of downtown even if you leave your car there! We have seen used baby diapers, empty bottles and cake plates left in the street from Grange Hall parties too.”

Red Phone: Dear Disgusted With The Mess, wow, sounds like you have a situation. To start, Code Enforcement Officer John Amos deals with the garbage issue. When you see garbage in the streets and on private property – or graffiti – go to www.morganhill.ca.gov/forms.aspx?fid=158 to file a complaint.

As far as the potholes, Red Phone contacted Anthony Eulo, program administrator for the city, who said a work order has been issued and a city crew will fill the potholes found on the street and grind the uplifted sidewalks.

“While the street itself is in need of reconstruction, there are not funds available at this time for that level of repair,” Eulo said. “We will ensure that 4th Street receives consideration if significant street work is programmed in future budgets. The state’s elimination of the city’s Redevelopment Agency took away the funding source the city used for nearly all of our downtown street investments.”

Regarding the garbage left by visitors to the neighborhood, Eulo said the city does “require sponsors of major downtown events to pickup trash and debris after their events, however, this requirement only is placed on those few events that need a special permit from the city.”

Good caller, hope that answers your questions.

Web site offers way to opt out

“Red Phone, in a recent issue you told readers how to stop AT&T from delivering phone books, but there are others besides AT&T. How do we get those companies to stop delivering the books if we don’t want them?”

Red Phone: Dear Opt Out, Red Phone contacted Sophia M. Hitti, senior account executive with Fleishman-Hillard, one of the world’s largest public relations agencies, who said the Yellow Pages industry maintains a website that allows consumers nationwide to tailor print deliveries to their home.

The website offers:

– A way for consumers to stop delivery of one, several or all directories.

– Images of directory covers and delivery schedules, making it easy for consumers to identify which to include in any opt-out request.

– Email confirmation.

– Privacy as consumers’ personal information is used for the sole purpose of optimizing their Yellow Pages experience and will never be sold.

Hope that helps, good caller.
