Gavilan College has opened its search for a women’s basketball head coach as the school begins the process of re-instituting the program.

“We’re excited about the growth of our athletic department and the ability to offer this great opportunity to the student-athletes in our community. We plan to move forward as quickly as possible to identify a coach and begin the recruiting process,” athletic director Ron Hannon wrote in an email Thursday. “If everything falls into place, we plan to be competing for the 2012-13 season.”

Gavilan last competed in women’s basketball in 2004-05.
