With only 10 players available to play, the Sobrato boys soccer team opened its season with a 1-0 loss to Salinas on Saturday during the Homestead Cup.
The Cowboys scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds left in the first half. The Bulldogs struggled to gain an offensive attack, but played strong on the defensive end. Led by senior Tony Saenz, Justin Cisneros and Nick Crawford, the Bulldogs limited Cowboy chances at the net.
“Our defense kept us in the game,” head coach Ricardo Martinez said. “They did very well.”
In the net, sophomore Marco Agredano recorded seven saves to keep the Bulldogs in the game.
Friday’s game against Silver Creek was postponed because of weather.
The Bulldogs travel to Homestead on Saturday to continue the Homestead Cup against Fremont. The game is expected to start at 11 a.m.
Sobrato girls soccer
With two goals by freshman Kayla King, the Sobrato girls soccer team opened its 2012 season with a dominant 3-0 win over Oak Grove.
In the win, the Bulldogs recieved one goal from Senior Rebekah Inouye and three saves from freshman keeper Hazel Sanz.
Sobrato took a 1-0 lead in the first half, and tacked on two goals over the finals minutes to pull away from Oak Grove.
Sobrato travels to Anzar High in San Juan Bautista on Wednesday. The gam starts at 3:30 p.m.
Sobrato boys basketball
The Bulldogs home opener against Del Mar was postponed Friday because of no referees, head coach Lee Washington said. The game will be rescheduled for Dec. 22 at Del Mar.
Sobrato hosts Live Oak at 7 p.m. Monday.
