In the wake of the disappearance of Sierra LaMar, a 15-year-old Sobrato High School cheerleader, a children’s safety group is hoping to educate parents on the technologically advanced safety options available to them.
On what would have been Polly Klaas’ 32nd birthday, the KlaasKids Foundation – a nonprofit organization founded by the parents of Polly Klaas in response to her kidnap and murder – will host a press conference to educate parents on child safety and the tools the foundation provides to help prevent future child abductions.
The Klaas family and Sierra LaMar’s father will be on hand at the event, which will begin at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 at the Sierra LaMar Search center on 85 Tilton Road.
The Klass Foundation is dedicated to helping parents utilize advanced technology and tools that will protect their children. The foundation also provides and extensive support system when it comes to recovering missing children.
“My Polly was kidnapped in 1993. It’s been 20 years,” said Polly’s father Marc Klaas. “We can think of no better way to commemorate her memory than to provide America’s young families with child safety solutions.”
The KlaasKids foundation will introduce an updated website which helps connect parents to different child safety resources. Some of the many services provided by KlaasKids include Cocoon, a free online tool to protect children from predators and abusive marketers.
Parents will be introduced to “Polly’s Guardian Angel” – the nation’s first missing child smartphone application in which parents can alert the community and connect with resources to bring their child home.
The KlaasKids Foundation will also show parents the new LEO wristwatch. The watch has a titanium infused steel wristband, making it the first GPS child locator that cannot be easily discarded.
In their continued efforts to provide parents with resources to bring their missing child home, the Klaas Family Housing Fund will be launched to assist the families of missing children with housing expenses.
