Officials from Pacific Gas & Electric will host three informational, open house meetings regarding its proposed South County Power Connect project next week in Morgan Hill and Gilroy.
The project will include building a new substation and two new transmission lines to provide an additional transmission source for the region. Upgrades to southern Santa Clara County’s electric system will help reduce the risk of local power outages for the nearly 43,000 existing PG&E customers and help PG&E continue to provide safe and reliable service in the area, according to the announcement.
The three meeting dates are:
• Monday, July 18, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, Hiram Morgan Hill Room, 17000 Monterey Road;
• Monday, July 18, 4:30 to 7 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, Hiram Morgan Hill Room, 17000 Monterey Road;
• Tuesday, July 19, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hannah Street in Gilroy.
“Based on earlier community feedback and environmental field studies, PG&E is returning to the community to present substation site options and refined transmission line corridors,” according to the July 7 release.
PG&E staff will be available at each open house to discuss the details of the projects, answer questions and gather public feedback and input.
