With a focus on youth, seniors, veterans and the community at large, the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill Dec. 19 announced the list of 2015 “Charitable Grants” recipients, who received a combined $14,500 in funds.
The Charitable Grants Committee reviewed 22 applications and rounded that down to nine grant winners. Those groups were Community Solutions; Coyote Valley Track and Field; Gamma Alpha Chapter Reading Program; Gavilan Buzz Softball; Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance; Nordstrom Home and School Club; One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding; St. Vincent de Paul Society; and Worldview Explorations.
“The grants are made in an effort to help various local groups enhance their programs and benefit the community,” according to the Dec. 19 announcement. “The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill is proud to aid these groups and looks forward to seeing the results of these grants. We anticipate continued community support in the future.”
The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, recipient of the Rotary International Presidential Citation for Distinguished Service, has served the Morgan Hill Community for 60 years. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
Rotarians bring Christmas cheer to local youth
The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill fulfilled Christmas wishes for the youth at The El Toro Boys and Girls Club with a special Dec. 17 event that included Christmas carols, dinner provided by the families and the presentation of a gift to each child.
The Christmas party was attended by about 75 children with Rotarians providing gifts for all of them. Members shopped for gifts off of wish lists provided by the children
El Toro Youth Director Alban Diaz noted that the youth were excited about the party, according to the Dec. 21 press release. He looked at the party as more than just a Christmas celebration for the children but also as a reward for all the hard work they having been doing in their schoolwork.
“The Rotary club was delighted to spread some holiday cheer for the children,” the press release states. The El Toro Boys & Girls Club is located at 17620 Crest Avenue.
