Rotary honors outstanding students

The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill recognized 10 outstanding Morgan Hill Unified School District elementary and middle school students Jan. 20 during a special luncheon ceremony.
Rotarians welcomed a group comprised of 52 students, teachers, administrators, family and friends to the winter event with MHUSD Superintendent Steve Betando acting as the Master of Ceremonies.
Each of the 10 honored students introduced themselves and spoke of their respective interests and goals. Each student received a certificate of achievement and $50.
The awards are an opportunity for Rotary to recognize student leaders who have excelled in the areas of academics, citizenship, leadership and community spirit.
The students honored were Denisse Velasco Diaz (Barrett Elementary), Kiana Ton (Charter School of Morgan Hill),  Austin Vandercoevering (El Toro Elementary), Mia Claire Kanter (Jackson Academy), Sofia Aliamus (Los Paseos), Macy Green (Nordstrom Elementary), Diya Kandhra (Paradise Valley Elementary), Makena Campbell (San Martin/Gwinn Elementary), Yenifer Morales (P.A. Walsh Elementary) and Valerie Doan (Oakwood School).
The Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, recipient of the Rotary International Presidential Citation for Distinguished Service, has served the Morgan Hill community for 60 years. Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.
