More than 100 local youngsters tackled the City of Morgan Hill’s Splash 2 Dash Youth Triathlon 2016, which was held June 11 at Ann Sobrato High School.
In the boys 11-13 age division, 13-year-old Brendan Tompkins bested the field in 28:12 ahead of runner-up Sean Uusitalo, 11, who finished in 31:13 and third-place Joe Carroll, 13, in 31:23.
In the girls 11-13 division, 12-year-old Sophia Piper and 11-year-old Sashee Piper were the first two finishers in 29:31, with 12-year-old Macy Green taking third in 33:47.
There were four age divisions and award categories. Distances based on age are as follows: 5-6 year olds swim 25 yards, bike 1.25 miles and run 1/4 mile; 7-8 year olds swim 50 yards, bike 2.5 miles and run 1/2 mile; 9-10 year olds swim 100 yards, bike 3.75 miles and run 3/4 mile; and 11-13 year olds swim 150 yards, bike 5 miles and run 1 mile.
In the boys 9-10 division, 9-year-old Walker Napoli placed first in 21:27 ahead of 10-year-old James Blanchard in 22:11 and 9-year-old Simon Blanchard in 23:04.
In the girls 9-10 division, Hailey Stegall, 10, took the tape in 25:56 with Zella Harper, 10, in second with a time of 26:01 and Stephanie Wood, 9, in third with a time of 26:42.
In the boys 7-8 division, 8-year-old Hudson Napoli finished in 14:16 for first place; 8-year-old Lucas Tompkins finished in 14:19 for second place; and 8-year-old Jacob Navas finished in 18:11 for third place.
In the girls 7-8 division, 7-year-old Eliana Blanchard bested the field in 17:20 ahead of 8-year-old Sparrow Pierzina (18:33) and 8-year-old Rowen Gold (18:59).
In the boys 6-under division, Lance Welch, 6, finished the fastest in 10:52 ahead of runner up Justin Tremblay, 6, in 10:55 and third-place Tarin Forbes, 6, in 12:32.
In the girls 6-under division, Addison White, 6, took the tape in 11:39 to edge out Rose Sullivan, 5, in 11:45 and Sierra Pierzina, 6, in 11:52.
The event was timed by Racemine Event Management.
