With six days expired and 19 days remaining, no papers have been pulled or filed by any prospective candidates who intend to vie for the vacant seventh seat on the Morgan Hill Unified School District’s Board of Education, according to the candidate services division of the Registrar of Voters office.
Candidate nomination packets became available Feb. 16 and can be obtained at MHUSD headquarters (15600 Concord Circle) or the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office (1555 Berger Drive in San Jose).
One seat is open on the seven-member local board of education in the June 7 election. The seat was vacated by former trustee Amy Porter-Jensen in October 2015 prior to the end of her four-year term. The winner of the June 7 election will serve out the remainder of Porter-Jensen’s term, which expires in November 2016.
Candidates have until March 11 to file their completed packets and must be at least 18 years of age and live anywhere within the MHUSD district boundaries, which range from parts of south San Jose to San Martin, in order to qualify.
As for the November 2016 election, candidates must live within the district trustee area designated for the seat for which they wish to run. MHUSD will hold its first by-district/trustee area election in November after changing formats from its traditional at-large election system in 2015. To find out which district-trustee area you live in, check the MHUSD website at mhusd.org, under the section “Find Your Trustee Area.” Along with Porter-Jensen’s former seat, those of Board President Bob Benevento and Trustee Rick Badillo are also set to expire in November.
Completed candidate packets can be dropped off at either the MHUSD District Office or the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters.
