The winner will receive eight hours in a recording studio, and four CDs with music from the session and a cover design for the CD, event organizer Patty Curtis, who owns the Carta Luna gift shop on West Second Street, said. There will also be consolation prizes for the finalists, she said.

The Thursday Street Dance will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on West Second Street at Monterey Road.

Curtis said the contestants ranged in age from 13 to about 80, and the finalists were a good mix of ages and styles as well.

This year, the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce voted to move the Friday Night Music Series to the Community and Cultural Center’s amphitheater. This event takes place Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Downtown merchants came together to form the new series at the old spot to assuage their fears that, with the Friday Night event removed from the downtown core, there would be less foot traffic from Main Avenue to Third Street on Monterey Road.

Between 200 and 300 people attended the dance each Thursday night,

Curtis said the merchants plan to hold another Street Dance and Idol competition next year, and are talking about starting up different events, as well.

“We already have it in the works,” she said.

There will be no band Thursday night, but Curtis’s son Sam Curtis, a disc jockey with That Record Company on Depot Street will emcee the event, she said.
