Cheers: to the residents who braved the heat to come downtown

Cheers: to the Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2009 for their extremely successful Volunteer Morgan Hill Faire. More than 1,000 hours were promised by more than 400 volunteers to more than 50 nonprofits. We hope this will become an ongoing fixture and asset for our fair city.

Jeers: to those involved in the spying case that dates back more than five years and is now heading toward a possible trial pitting local Attorney Bruce Tichinin against the city. Both sides believe they are doing what they think best. That’s understandable. But as City Councilman Greg Sellers said, “it reflected negatively on the entire community …” And, it’s likely to continue.

Cheers: to the residents who braved the heat to come downtown for the 20th Annual Taste of Morgan Hill, and to the Chamber of Commerce and all the volunteers for throwing a heck of a party. Despite the heat, attendees were all smiles – especially those sipping on something cold. The car show was fantastic, the music was great, and the food was delectable. Here’s to looking forward to the 21st edition.

Jeers: to those who brought their dogs to the Taste of Morgan Hill. It was much too hot to drag your best friend downtown to suffer the heat. Take the dog to the dog park, then bring the family to the festival. Dogs are not fashion accessories – though that might be hard to disprove after seeing dozens of residents carrying their panting canines – to be shown off without consideration of their health and well being.

Cheers: To the Sobrato Bulldogs for pulling off an upset of cross-town rival Live Oak. The 27-6 thumping in front of about 4,000 frenzied fans gives the Bulldogs a 2-1 record, matching their win total from last year, as they head into this week’s West Valley Division opener against Silver Creek.
