Dear Editor,
In today’s Morgan Hill Times (Tues. March 7), the Measure B Citizen Watchdog Committee took out a full page ad to brag about the results of Measure B.
I just wish their statement that “virtually all transportation projects promised to county voters in 1996 have or will soon be completed” was true.
The only reason I voted for Measures A & B back in 1996 was because they promised to increase Caltrain service to South County.
At the time we had only four trains northbound in the morning, and four southbound in the evening, with no service on weekends.
Sadly, rather than adding trains, they’ve actually reduced service to Morgan Hill! Officially, there are now three trains daily to/from Morgan Hill. However, if you’re going to Menlo Park as I do, the first two morning trains arrive six minutes apart.
So effectively, we are down to two morning trains and three evening trains, and still no weekend service. That’s a 37 percent reduction from 1996! This is hardly the “success” I envisioned when I agreed to this sales tax increase 10 years ago!
It’s insulting to the citizens of South County when our government claims they’ve delivered on their promises when the facts so clearly show otherwise. Rest assured that I will remember this broken promise the next time they ask for a sales tax increase.
