Cheers to St. Catherine Church and parish on its centennial celebration. The church has been an indelible part of the lives of local residents who praise the Morgan Hill institution’s role in bringing an increasingly diverse community together.
The church population has grown substantially over the decades. The original church was built in 1909 on land donated by the family of Catherine Dunne, the church’s namesake. It started with 150 members, and today about 3,500 families from throughout South County are registered parishioners. Congratulations to all.
Jeers to the juvenile wanna-be gangbangers who at least twice in the past month or so disrupted the school day at Live Oak High School with lunch time fights. The most recent, on Oct. 30, resulted in citations for seven students, five males and two females.
Those cited need to be expelled so students who want to learn are provided the tools and the atmosphere in which to do so.
Cheers to all the service men and woman who have fought, are fighting and will continue to fight America’s battles, be they noble or not. Their sacrifices allow us the freedoms we so enjoy and often take for granted. We support you.
Jeers to the Santa Clara Valley Water District for apparently breaking the law (Proposition 218) and illegally collecting groundwater charges at the same time asking the county tax assessor to collect parcel tax revenues from property owners totaling the same amount, for the same water – an act one witness in the case called “double dipping.” Even if the water district prevails, the suit shows the need for greater oversight and transparency.
Cheers to the legislature and Assemblyman Bill Monning for helping save Morgan Hill $2 million in Redevelopment Agency funds that the state will take from the city.
