Congratulations for a great Mushroom Mardi Gras

Dear Editor,

I write to thank the volunteers, board members, and the entire Morgan Hill community for the organization, promotion, and production of one of the most successful Mushroom Mardi Gras ever!

I enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk with community members and was especially pleased to be able to meet the scholarship award recipients at the presentation ceremony on Sunday. The caliber of students selected is testament to their industry and commitment as well as to the support of their families, teachers, and community.

Despite the very tough economic times, Morgan Hill has demonstrated the power of citizen involvement, volunteerism, and community.

Thank you to all who participated and to those who lead this remarkable family-oriented event.

Where’s the outrage over killing of U.S Army private?

Dear Editor,

There you go again. Taking a stand on the Tiller murder as a terrorist act. Unbelievable. Karen Anderson wanted to know why Christian churches did not denounce this act. From what I saw on CNN, CNBC, Fox and the network channels, churches denounced this act of violence, including my church. Then we guessed as to the motive such as intending to terrorize pro-abortion doctors, or to intimate or show expressions of hate. Maybe to attain goals to instill fear, or by definition a calculated violent act on a civilian to attain religious goals. Lisa Pampuch used the same dictionary. Of course, these were all legal, medically necessary abortions. Amazing research. John Quick cites the chilling effect this abomination will have on the desperately needed services of Dr Tiller. I have five beautiful grandchildren, four adopted. I sure glad Dr. Tiller was not in the neighborhood at the time.

But what struck me as strange, President Obama denounced the murder, which it was, on national television. Meanwhile in Little Rock Ark., Carlos Bledsoe, who had changed his name to Abdul Hakim Jujahid Muhammad murdered Private William Long, a soldier in the United States Army and severely wounded Private Quenton Ezeagwula at a U.S. Army Navy Career Center inside the Ashley Square Shopping Center. His stated motive was that he was angry with the military. Was this an act of terrorism? No TV appearance or statement forthcoming from the President regarding this act.

How about next weeks topic Around the Water Cooler touching on this act of terrorism?

Fancy bullet train won’t solve a thing, but it will amass huge debt

Dear Editor,

Building a fancy train that won’t solve any of California’s problems that the train’s promoters claim it will? If all this risk is placed on the taxpayers of this and future generations, and if it is so risky, then why should we do it?

Florida’s voters revoked their consent to build bullet trains in their state. We should, too, before we make the biggest boondoggle mistake for which future generations will condemn us.
