The Morgan Hill Raider Midget Cheer team defended their 2008 national title, repeating their 1st Place performance at the 2009 Pop Warner National Championships for Small Intermediate Midget Cheer (ages 11 to 15) held at Disneyworld in Orlando, Fla.

The competition of 17 teams was stronger this year, with the Raider Midgets taking the title with a score of 75.44 out of 87 possible points.

The girls performed their difficult stunts, tumbling, cheer and dance routine with excitement and energy in every move bringing the crowd to their feet, Midget Head Coach Shelly Solorio said.

“The girls worked hard and drove each other to be better than the competition before, taking every title this season and ending with another National Championship has been surreal,” she said.

Out of 5,000 Pop Warner cheer squads, Morgan Hill Raider Cheer advanced three squads to compete at Nationals this year. Morgan Hill’s Jr. Midget squad, led by head coach Sandra Niebla, finished stronger this year with a 7th place showing. The Pee Wee squad placed 3rd out of 17 with a very tough and entertaining routine. First year coach Gabriela De la Torre was thrilled with the result.

“The girls knew they could compete with the best,” she said.
