The City of Morgan Hill and the Mt. Madonna YMCA have announced their partnership to operate the Centennial Recreation Center.

The new 52,000 square-foot facility in Morgan Hill will offer a variety of health and fitness and social activities for individuals and families in the surrounding community. The Centennial Recreation Center opens Oct. 14 for charter members. The grand opening is Oct. 28.

“The city’s Recreation and Community Services department and the YMCA seem like natural partners,” said Steve Rymer, director of Recreation and Community Services for the City of Morgan Hill.

Members will need to pay a monthly fee to use the facility, but will also get free access to five other YMCAs in South County.

“We are excited to offer this benefit to Centennial Recreation Center members,” said Debbie Cupp, executive director of the Mt. Madonna YMCA. “This unique partnership between the city and the YMCA means Centennial Recreation Center members can take advantage of all the programs and services at both facilities.”

The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 28, 10am-3pm. Activities include recreational swimming, health and fitness demonstrations and a barbecue. The teen center will host an open house Oct. 28, 10am-3pm, and a dance from 7-10pm.
