"Art a la Carte"

It is a long-standing tradition in Morgan Hill and it continues as strong as ever again this year. The Morgan Hill Community & Cultural Center (CCC) is the proud home of the 13th Annual “Art a la Carte” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday. The event attracts families, businesses and volunteers, while providing free fun and community spirit.

Organized and staffed entirely with community volunteers, Art a la Carte is hands-on arts and crafts for children between the ages of 2 and 10. This year’s theme is “Letters, Words, Books as Art” and will feature award-winning, Bay Area author, Annie Winston, whose “Admiral Wright’s Heroical Storicals” book series has proven a popular read with elementary school children and teachers throughout California.

“Even though Art a la Carte is specific to children, it is clear that it draws members from the entire community and represents the best that Morgan Hill has to offer,” said Dave Reisenauer, president of the Morgan Hill Community Foundation. “We have seniors bringing their grandchildren, all kinds of families, dozens of high school volunteers, local business supporting the event out of their own pockets, community leaders giving their time and planning expertise, and generous donors, who make the whole thing possible. The crafts may be for kids, but the experience has proven to be valuable for everyone involved.”

This year is especially significant because Art a la Carte is the keystone event that closes out the CCC’s celebration of its own 10-year anniversary. This event, like most others at the venue, offers a great sampling of the people and community organizations that make the CCC the vibrant campus it is today.

Art a la Carte is co-hosted by the Morgan Hill Community Foundation’s El Toro Culture and Arts Committee, which supports a broad range of cultural activities and the arts in Morgan Hill, and the City of Morgan Hill Recreation and Community Services Division of the Community Services Department. The event is made possible through the commitment of many volunteers and generous donors including Coyote Valley Sporting Clays, Santa Clara Valley Contractors’ Association and Valle del Sur Art Guild.

The event will also feature animal displays hosted by Friends of the San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) and the San Martin 4-H Club. Both groups supported Art a la Carte last year and proved to be popular attractions for all the kids who attended last year’s event. FOSMAS animals will also be available for adoption.

Many of the booth partners scheduled to attend are businesses and local organizations that have supported the event, the arts, and children’s education for years. This year’s list of booth partners includes the Children’s Discovery Museum, Morgan Hill Library, Culture and Arts Commission, BookSmart, Champions Gymnastics, Pump It Up and Friends of the Morgan Hill Library. Some of the popular projects that will be available are chalk art, face painting, musical instruments, handmade books, toys and various types of decorations.

For food lovers, the Road Dogs Food Truck will also be on hand for the second year. Road Dogs proved to be a popular addition and is looking forward to returning.
