I never thought I’d see two lifelong Republicans like Pete McCloskey and Tom Benigno endorse a Democrat for Congress. But then again, Pombo has taken corrupt money from Jack Abramoff, supported Big Oil, promoted a highway that would enrich his family’s real estate portfolio, and done everything possible to gut environmental protections. So, I guess their statements sum it up; McCloskey said “I’ve concluded two things: Jerry McNerney is an honest man; Richard Pombo is not. I’m confident that Jerry McNerney is an honorable man who will vote his conscience.” Benigno said, “We need change and I think the people are ready for it.” I say Pombo has got to go.
