Colonel John B. Fitch passed away on May 16, 2013, in Hollister, CA at the age of 82. Born in Pennsylvania he lived an adventurous life.

He went to Heidelberg High school in Germany and later was accepted to West Point Military Academy. After spending time as a young officer in Germany and Korea, he went to Georgia Tech to get a master’s degree in engineering.

His biggest excitement was commanding one of the first ever air cavalry units in Vietnam. He said in his writings that “Most people are motivated by money. They wouldn’t understand a man who wants a job that doesn’t pay much and yet carries a lot of risk to his career and maybe his life.”

After retirement John settled in Hollister with his wife Nettie and son John.

He worked as a contracts administrator. He later worked in insurance sales, real estate and as a substitute teacher. He was active on the Sunnyslope Water Board, Ridgemark Homeowners Association and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

He married Rosaleen Keeler after his previous wife passed away, and until her passing in December 2012.

He is survived by his son John and two grandsons, John and Jacob.
