The crowds just won’t stay away.
For the fourth weekend in a row, the Morgan Hill Outdoor Sports Complex is hosting a major event. And for the second time in three weeks, it will be a lacrosse tournament that will bring in thousands to the local area.
The 7th Annual West Coast Showcase for boys ages U9-U19 is returning for a second year in Morgan Hill, bringing with it between 86 and 88 teams and upwards of 10,000 people.
It will bring teams from across California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington for a two-day tournament starting on Saturday.
Matt Ogelsby of All West Lacrosse who is organizing the tournament, touted Morgan Hill’s facilities as the biggest reason why he wanted to bring it back for a second year.
“It’s an amazing facility. It has well manicured fields … it’s just gorgeous,” Ogelsby said.
He also was very happy that the hotels are right next to the fields and has the water park next door for those who have free time between games.
Ogelsby said he wants to make the tournament into a festival atmosphere, and will provide a “venders village” within the complex.
The tournament was born out of Ogelsby’s desire to have one tournament where his Bay Area squads didn’t have to travel extensively to participate in each year.
“It was my dream to bring the outside teams to us,” Ogelsby said.
He will have 13 teams from his All West Lacrosse organization.
The Sports Complex is in the middle of a summer rush of events. To kick off June, the complex hosted a 200-plus team soccer tournament, followed up with a car show and a USA Lacrosse Western Regional tournament at the end of June. Last weekend, the Outdoor Sports Complex hosted the annual fire works show for the first time.
Coming up in summer is Copa Univision’s 5-on-5 soccer tournament for all ages.
Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance President Jeff Dixon said he is excited to have the tournament back and isn’t concerned about having so many high profile events so close together.
“I’m more nervous about the two weeks we don’t have anything planned,” Dixon said.
