Morgan Hill Police officer and expert dirt bike rider Billy Jurevich competed in the annual United States Police and Fire Olympics, held June 17 and 18 in San Diego, CA.
Jurevich won gold medals in motocross and Grand Prix events. The motocross event consisted of two separate 20 minute races and the Grand Prix event consisted of an hour-long race on two tracks. Jurevich raced against other expert class dirt bike racers including one who was a past Supercross and U.S. Open champion.
Jurevich has been riding dirt bikes for 17 years and turned professional at the age of 16. He has previously competed in motocross, arenacross and supercross.
“Motocross gave me something to dedicate myself to and kept me out of trouble when I was a teenager,” Jurevich said. “I am an advocate for children to participate in any sort of sport such as motocross, baseball, football, etc. which will help them understand teamwork and to remain active.”
Jurevich has been with the MHPD for nearly one year and previously worked as a deputy for the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office. In the future, he aspires to be a motorcycle traffic officer for the MHPD.
