Theft of scrap metal
An employee of Jo Ann Fabrics and Crafts, 225 Tennant Station, reported someone has repeatedly stolen scrap metal from a garbage container outside the store, police said. The missing metal was discarded from a remodeling project inside the store. The crime was reported about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Attempted grocery theft
Two men tried to steal more than $1,000 of groceries from both Safeway grocery stores on Dunne and Tennant avenues Tuesday, according to police reports. The suspects filled shopping carts with groceries but were “spooked” before making off with any of the goods. The men, described as being in their 40s or 50s, allegedly tried to steal six bottles of Champagne, a cart full of meat and toilet paper from one of the stores. The crime was reported about 3:30 p.m.
Endangering child while panhandling
A couple asking for money was standing by the road outside McDonalds, 135 Cochrane Plaza, potentially endangering three small children with them, according to police reports. A passing motorist called police to report the possible danger. The man and woman were holding up a sign asking for money. The woman was holding one of the children – an infant – in one arm, close to the passing traffic. The incident was reported about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Theft of pressure washer
Someone stole an $800 pressure washer from a residence on La Crosse Drive Wednesday morning, police said. The machine was stolen from a unit at an apartment complex, and the victim thinks another resident stole the pressure washer. The stolen item is described as an “HD Supply” brand pressure with a Honda engine, and it is black with a silver wheeled frame. The machine weighs about 300 pounds. The crime was reported about 11:40 a.m.
