Had enough of one-party rule in Washington? Had enough of
Richard Pombo? Ready for a representative who is in step with the
people of the 11th District? Elect Jerry McNerney to the United
States House of Representatives
Morgan Hill voters, as a part of the gerrymandered 11th California Congressional District, have a chance to play a pivotal role in restoring balance to the nation’s government.

They can do so by sending Jerry McNerney to the United States House of Representatives.

While helping to break the Republicans’ exclusive grip on power in Washington, D.C. and restoring balance in our nation’s capital are good reasons to vote for McNerney, they’re neither the only reasons nor the best reasons to choose McNerney.

The most important reason is that McNerney better represents the people of the 11th District than his opponent, incumbent Republican Richard Pombo.

Pombo differs with most district residents on issues like the wisdom and efficacy of the war in Iraq, federal funding of stem cell research, environmental protection, and drilling for oil in sensitive areas like the Pacific coast and the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge. It’s time that the residents of the 11th District had a representative whose positions on health care, education, social security, immigration and ethics reflect the views of the community instead of the views of the Bush Administration.

McNerney, a Democrat, supports a sensible plan for withdrawal from Iraq, will encourage foreign policies that make America safer, advocates wise investments in homeland security, and champions improving security while protecting precious civil liberties.

Troubling ethical questions linger around Pombo. He’s been named one of the 13 most corrupt members of congress by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

Both of Pombo’s Republican primary opponents – Pete McCloskey, who defeated Pombo in Santa Clara County, and Tom Benigno – have endorsed McNerney.

Polls show that the race between McNerney and Pombo is a dead heat. That’s quite a change for a seat widely considered to be safe for the GOP just a short time ago.

Had enough of one-party rule in Washington? Had enough of Richard Pombo? Ready for a representative who is in step with the people of the 11th District?

Elect Jerry McNerney to the United States House of Representatives.
